
Authorities said on Saturday at least eleven persons, many of them civilians, were injured after unknown persons lobbed a hand grenade on roadside vendors here in Hari Singh High Street area of Srinagar city.
A senior police officer said the grenade exploded when a large number of people were busy in buying items from roadside vendors and slope sellers.
“Unknown persons hurled the grenade which caused a loud explosion. There were cries of panic and people started running for their lives,” reports, quoting a witness, said.
Soon after the explosion, bystanders rushed to help the injured while police also reached the spot in the meantime. The injured were later shifted to a hospital where their condition is believed to be out of danger.
Reports said the injured have been identified as Farooq Ahmed Kadla of Lal Bazar, Basit Sheikh from Batamaloo, Muhammad Younis of Bemina, Shahid Ahmed of Padshahi Bagh, Sabah Malik of Zoonimar, Suhail Mir from Pampore, Bilal Ahmed of Uri, Saifullah of Zaldagar and Abdul Rahim Wani of Central Kashmir.
“Soon after the explosions, police and other security forces launched a search operation in the areas. We are also scrutinizing the CCTV footage to get some clue on the attackers,” the police officer said.
