Srinagar, April 8: Security forces on Wednesday detected and defused a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists on a road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, an Army official said.
He said a tragedy was averted as the IED was “apparently meant to target security forces’ vehicles”.
The device was found along the Zainapora-Chitargam road in the south Kashmir district early this morning during routine sanitisation operations, the official said.
He said the object was found to be a powerful IED during examination. A bomb disposal squad was called to the site and the IED was neutralised.
In a post on X, Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps said the timely action of the forces helped avert a major tragedy.
“#ChinarWarriors, in a joint operation with @JmuKmrPolice, averted a major terror incident by recovering and neutralising an IED near Chitragam in Gen area Zainapora, Shopian. The 14.5 kg IED, packed with high explosives and fitted with a remote trigger, was surgically handled and destroyed in a controlled manner,” Army said
Army said that it remains resolute in its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free.
