₹17.5L stolen property recovered in Sgr

Srinagar, Aug 7: In a significant breakthrough against property crime, Srinagar Police has solved a major theft case and recovered stolen property worth approximately ₹17.5 lakhs.

The case was registered at Police Station Rainawari as FIR No. 35/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint lodged by Mohd Amin Changa, son of Mohd Yousuf Changa, resident of Changa Mohalla, Mir Behri, Dal, Rainawari, regarding a theft at his residence. During the investigation, Police identified one accused namely Mohd Hussain Latoo, son of Mohd Afzal Latoo, resident of Akhoon Mohalla, Mir Behri, Dal, Rainawari. During investigation, his involvement in the theft was disclosed, in connivance with two associates, both of whom were found to be juveniles. Acting upon the disclosure, the investigating team recovered gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹12 lakhs along with cash amounting to ₹2.2 lakhs.
Further investigation revealed that a portion of the stolen money had been used to purchase three iPhones and one motorcycle, collectively valued at approximately ₹3.5 lakhs. The recovered stolen property includes Two gold bangles, Eight gold rings, One gold necklace, One gold pendant set, Two large earring sets, One small earring set, One pair of gold jhumkas, One wristwatch, Cash amounting to ₹2.2 lakhs, Three iPhones and One motorcycle. The total value of the recovered gold ornaments, cash, and other stolen articles is estimated at approximately ₹17.5 lakhs. Further investigation into the case is underway, and additional recoveries are expected.
J&K Police remains committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens and urges the public to promptly report any suspicious activity or criminal incidents to the nearest police station.
