
Jammu, Aug 13: Jammu Railway Police have arrested an absconding terrorist wanted in Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) case registered for 1991 Bomb Blast at Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
The blast at Platform Number 1 left three persons including two para-military personnel dead and 18 injured.
Police said that the Railway (GRP) Police Jammu have arrested absconding terrorist booked under TADA identified as Altaf Hussain Sheikh, son of Nazir Ahmed Sheikh, resident of Marhama, Bijbehara, district Anantnag (J&K).
"The wanted terrorist has been arrested after a long chase of 35 years, who went underground and was living with concealed identity for several decades," police said.
According to police, the accused terrorist along with other accomplices was involved in a bomb blast case of April 2, 1991 at platform number 1, Railway Station, Jammu killing three persons including two paramilitary troops and injuring 18 civilians.
Accordingly, they said that a case was registered under FIR number 07/1991 Under Sections 307, 302, 120(B) RPC, 3/4 TADA, 4/5 ESA at Police Station GRP Jammu.
During the investigation, police said one of the terrorists namely Aman Ullah Khan was arrested on the blast day but three others escaped and were declared absconders by the Court.
“In past two years, GRP Jammu launched an intensive manhunt and identified and verified the absconding terrorist by scrutinizing his details, residential particulars and concealed identity. He had established himself as a successful businessman in the Bijbehara area," police said.
“Due to result-oriented long-pursuit of the police team, a wanted terrorist was arrested and was produced before the TADA Court on Thursday for further legal proceedings,” police said.
