
Jammu, Sept 21: Two pilots of Indian army were killed when an Army helicopter crash-landed in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
"Today, during a training sortie in Patnitop area, Indian Army's Cheetah helicopter crash-landed in Shiv Garh Dhar area in the district," a Jammu-based defence spokesman said.
The two pilots were injured in the incident and they were evacuated to a hospital.
However, both succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
The deceased were identified as Major Rohit Kumar and Major Anuj Rajput.
The incident occurred between 10.30 am to 10.45 am, officials said, adding the chopper belonged to the Army Aviation Corps.
However, following the information, a police team was immediately dispatched to the area.
Police said there was foggy weather in the area and the helicopter reportedly crashed due to poor visibility.
On August 3, Army chopper crashed into the Ranjit Sagar Lake Dam in Basholi area of Kathua district in which two pilots were killed and the body of one of them was recovered.
Meanwhile, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha saluted the courage and supreme sacrifice of two Army officers who laid down their lives in a helicopter crash in Udhampur district of Jammu region.
“ I salute the courage and supreme sacrifice of our braveheart Army officers Major Rohit Kumar & Major Anuj Rajput who laid down their lives in the line of duty at Patnitop, Udhampur. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” Sinha tweeted.
