Army on Tuesday said two terrorists were killed as troops foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
An official said the infiltration bid was foiled as the security grid remains on heightened alert along the LoC amid apprehension of increased infiltration attempts from across the LoC before heavy snowfall closes mountain passes.
In a post on X, the Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps said based on specific intelligence input provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and corroborated by other agencies, a joint operation was launched in the Machil sector of Kupwara yesterday.
“Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists,” Army said.
The identities and the group affiliation of the two terrorists was being ascertained.
The Army's Chinar Corps said a large quantity of weapons and equipment was recovered from the encounter site.
The operation, codenamed ‘Op Amar, was jointly conducted by the Indian Army and J&K Police, and search operations in the area were still in progress when reports last came in.
