
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti on Sunday said security forces have achieved a major success in border district of Poonch with the arrest of three terror sympathizers and recovery of seven AK rifles along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
In a post on X, the IGP Jammu said, “A fantastic investigation by Jammu and Kashmir Police, praising the team for its perseverance that led to the breakthrough.”
“Dogged determination and relentless investigation has resulted in the arrest of 03 terror sympathisers, recovery of 07 AKs (04 recovered earlier) and a large quantity of warlike stores,” he said.
The officials identified the arrested accused as Riyaz Ahmad, Tariq Sheikh and Mohammad Shafi.
While Riyaz and Tariq were arrested on August 31 along with two AK assault rifles, Shafi was arrested and rest of the weapons were recovered in the subsequent operation based on the investigation, they said.
The officials said the arrest and the recovery, which also included a large quantity of ammunition, scuttled an attempt by Hizbul Mujahideen outfit to revive terror activities in the border district.
