
Aizawl, July 7: In a major success against narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, operating under the Spear Corps, in a joint operation with the Excise & Narcotics Department, seized 1.1 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately ₹3.30 crore in Mizoram's Champhai district.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team launched a search operation in Zote village of Champhai district, a region that shares an international border and has often been used by drug traffickers for smuggling contraband.
During the operation, security personnel recovered 1.1 kg of methamphetamine tablets from an abandoned motorcycle. The smugglers, however, managed to flee the area before the search team reached the spot.
Officials said the recovered narcotics, estimated to be worth around ₹3.30 crore in the illegal market, were seized along with the abandoned motorcycle.
Following the seizure, the contraband and the vehicle were handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department for further investigation and legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the law.
The operation marks another significant blow to narcotics trafficking networks operating in the Northeast and highlights the continued coordination between the Assam Rifles and civil enforcement agencies in combating the drug menace.
Security officials reiterated that Assam Rifles remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking syndicates, strengthening border security, and ensuring a drug-free Northeast through sustained intelligence-based operations.
