Srinagar, Aug 3: At least 4.64 lakh pilgrims have so far performed Amarnath yatra as 7,507 pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine on Monday while a fresh batch of 1,056 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the Baltal base camp under tight security arrangements.

According to officials, 7,507 pilgrims, including 5,623 men, 1,344 women, 106 children, 36 sadhus, 14 sadhvis, five transgender devotees and 379 security personnel, performed darshan at cave shrine today, taking the cumulative number of pilgrims since the commencement of the Yatra on July 3 to 4,64,697.
Meanwhile, another batch of pilgrims departed from Bhagwati Nagar at 2:49 a.m.
The batch comprising 832 men, 205 women, two children, 15 sadhus and two sadhvis was escorted by a convoy of security forces to Baltal Base camp in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.
No convoy was dispatched via the Pahalgam route.
“The pilgrims travelled in a convoy of 46 vehicles, comprising 24 buses, seven medium motor vehicles (MMVs) and 15 light motor vehicles (LMVs), under a tight security escort,” an official said.
The official said that with the departure of the latest batch, the total number of pilgrims who have left the Jammu base camp for the ongoing pilgrimage has reached 1,40,748.
