Aizawl, Oct 4: Security forces recovered 2.5 kg of Heroin No. 4 valued at approximately ₹5.07 crore and apprehended two Myanmar nationals during an operation in Mizoram’s Champhai district, officials said.
The operation was launched at Zote on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding suspected cross-border narcotics trafficking.
The operation was conducted by the Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps, resulting in the seizure of the contraband and apprehension of the two Myanmar nationals.
The recovered heroin, commonly associated with organised narcotics trafficking, was subsequently secured for further legal proceedings. The apprehended individuals were also handed over to the concerned authorities for investigation and necessary action under applicable law.
The seizure comes amid continued efforts by security forces to prevent the movement of narcotics through the porous international border in the northeastern region.
Champhai district, which shares an international border with Myanmar, has remained a key area for security and anti-smuggling operations. Security forces have been maintaining heightened vigilance along vulnerable routes and conducting intelligence-based operations to disrupt networks involved in the movement of illicit drugs.
The latest operation also highlights the importance of coordination between security agencies in tackling cross-border narcotics trafficking and its wider impact on local communities.
The Assam Rifles and other security formations have continued to undertake operations aimed at curbing illegal activities along the border while strengthening security and community outreach in the region.
The recovery of heroin worth ₹5.07 crore is being viewed as a significant seizure in the ongoing efforts to disrupt narcotics trafficking networks operating across the India-Myanmar border.
