Srinagar, Feb 20: The Food Safety Department on Friday conducted a raid at a godown in Aban Shah area of Khushipora on the outskirts of Srinagar and seized a large quantity of suspected honey.
Officials said the godown belongs to a distributor operating from the Kokar Bazar area of Srinagar. During the inspection, approximately 725 kilograms of honey were recovered from the premises.
A senior official of the Food Safety Department told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the seized stock was found stored in unlabelled bottles, raising suspicion about its authenticity and compliance with food safety standards.
“We have seized 725 kilograms of honey from the godown. The bottles are not labelled and samples of the seized material will be sent for laboratory testing. It is yet to be ascertained whether it is genuine honey or something else,” the official said.
Further action, officials said, will be taken based on the laboratory analysis report.
