Srinagar, : As many as 87 Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officers were charge-sheeted before competent courts in corruption-related cases between January 1, 2019 and July 16, 2026, according to information provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) under the Right to Information Act.

The figure, however, does not mean 87 FIRs. The ACB’s response does not provide a consolidated breakdown of individual FIRs or the final outcomes of the charge-sheets, including convictions, acquittals, closures or cases pending before courts.
The data comes amid a continuing stream of corruption-related investigations involving officials across various departments. ACB records for 2025 and 2026 show registration of cases, searches and filing of charge-sheets in departments including Revenue, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Tribal Affairs and Transport.
Among recent cases is that of JKAS officer Sheeba Inayat, against whom the ACB registered cases in 2026 relating to alleged disproportionate assets and alleged irregularities in foodgrain distribution. The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
The ACB also registered a disproportionate-assets case against JKAS officer Zafar Iqbal in 2026 and conducted searches as part of the investigation.
In May 2025, the Bureau registered a case against M.S. Choudhary, then Director Tribal Affairs, J&K, over alleged irregularities in the implementation of post-matric scholarships for Scheduled Tribe students.
Other cases include an FIR against then Tehsildar Vijaypur Tarsem Lal and others over alleged illegal mutation, besides proceedings involving revenue officials in Budgam over alleged record tampering and financial irregularities.
The ACB has also continued filing charge-sheets in older cases. In one 2025 case, a charge-sheet was filed against officials, including the then Zonal Education Officer, Chandanwari, Baramulla, over alleged misappropriation of more than ₹27 lakh in scholarship funds.
The figures require careful interpretation as an FIR and its charge-sheet may fall in different years. For instance, the case involving former JKAS officer Mohammad Qasim Wani originated from an FIR registered before 2019, while prosecution sanction was accorded in 2020.
The ACB has not provided a corresponding consolidated figure for IAS officers. Cases involving IAS officers have nevertheless remained under investigation or prosecution-sanction proceedings during the period, including those linked to the J&K arms-licence case, whose underlying CBI FIRs predated 2019
