Khawaja Syed Baha' al-Din Shah Muhammad Naqshband was born in the month of Muharram 717- 791 / 1317- 1389)in Bukhra now Uzbekistan. He was a direct descendent of prophet Muhammed SAW. He was a prominent Sufi saint and the founder of the Naqshbandi order. Allah granted him miraculous powers in his childhood. He had been taught about the secret of this Tariqat by his first teacher, Sayyid Muhammad Baba As-Samasi (q). Then he was given the secret and the mastery of the Order by his shaikh, Sayyid Amir al-Kulal. He was also Uwaysi in his connection to the Prophet, as he was raised in the spiritual presence of Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q), who preceded him by 200 year. Shah Baha' al-Din Naqshband was eighteen years of age when he was sent by his grandfather to the village of Samas to serve the Shaikh of the Tariqat, Muhamad Baba as-Samasi (q), who had asked for him. From the beginning of his companionship with the Shaikh, he perceived within himself countless blessings and the urge for great sincerity and devotion. He is an Ocean of Knowledge that has no shore. Its waves were woven with the pearls of Heavenly Knowledge. He cleansed humanity with his Ocean of Innocence and Piety. He quenched the thirst of souls with the water of his spiritual Support. He is the Master of this Tariqat and the Shaikh of the Golden Chain and the Best of those who carried this lineage from the Khwajagan. Syed Baha' al-Din Shāh Naqshband met his lord on the 3rd of Rabi-ul-Awal, 1389 CE) . His Shrine is located near Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
Shah Naqshband (q) left behind many successors, the most honourable among whom were Shaikh Muhammad bin Muhammad Alauddin al-Khwarazmi al-Bukhari al-`Attar and Shaikh Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Mahmoud al-Hafizi, known as Muhammad Parsa, the author of Risala Qudsiyya. It is to the first that Shah Naqshband passed on the secret of the Golden Chain.
Naqshbandi order or Silsila -I Khawajgan is one of the oldest mystic order and was originally started in the land of turks beyond the Amu Darya .it was popularized mainly by Khawaja syed bahau d-din shah Muhammad Naqshband , direct decendent of prophet Muhammad SAW (717-791 /1317-1389).they trace their Silsila (Golden chain )to prophet Muhammad SAW through the first caliph ABU Bakr (.Almost all the Sufi orders trace their origin to the fourth caliph “Hazrat Ali ,but Naqshbandi ;s trace their origin from the first caliph Abu Bakr.
The Naqshbandi;s claim that their means of worship are the “nearest and the easiest” for the followers to achieve the highest level of union with God .A specific method is prescribed to attain this fulfilment ;and initiation into the order by a shaikh who has “experienced the path” is an absolute condition.
The Naqshbandi Silsila was introduced in Kashmir by Saiyid Hilal , who arrived here in the
reign of sultan Sikandar shah ( 1389- 1413) the country of Saiyid Hilal's origin is not known ;he is said to have been a direct disciple of Khawaja Bahau d- Din Shah Muhammad Naqshband.
He lived a quiet life and died on 14 RABI U; L AWAL ,961/ 9 February a the village of Asham
north of Kashmir , where he had settled down.

Saiyid Amin was adopted as a son by Baihaqi begam ,the wife of sultan zain -Ul- Abedin but the life of affluence did not appeal to him.
Like his spiritual master ,he led a life of retirement at Asham .when Saiyid Hilal died, he moved to Srinagar ,where he confined himself to a room near Koh -i-I -Maran .
Although Saiyid Amin had kept away from the royal courtyard and its politics ,he became the victim of a political intrigue .some disgruntled Kashmiri nobles, who had become alienated from the baihaqi syeds because of their arrogance, made a surprise attack on them on 30 Ziqad 889/8 december 1484 AD AND killed FIFTEEN members of the family. Among these was the inoffensive Saiyid amin .He was later buried at Alikadal on the right bank of a river Jehlum ,in Srinagar ,where his tomb exists to this day.
Saiyid Amin either did not enroll disciples or left no follower worthy of mention .thus after the death the Naqshbandi order remained unknown in Kashmiri for more than a century.
