A visit to Verinag.
Today in this article I am going to explore my opinion with you on how I enjoyed and explored Verinag during the harsh period of winters. I paid a visit to Verinag with family, my mother and father, on the 22nd of January 2025. We have to visit one of our close relatives at Shahabad Dooru after completing all the get-togethers. I decided to go to Verinag as my parents never been to there that was main reason to visit Verinag during late hour of chillai kallan.
For the local Kashmiris, we are not used to going to recreational purposes during winters due to having minus degrees, and people used to sit at home and keep themselves warm and avoid harsh, chilling cold waves. For nature lovers, all the 365 days are charming, mesmerizing, and endowed in the Kashmir Valley.
From our relative's residence, it took us 30 minutes to reach there and park my car outside the garden, pay the entry fee, and enter from the gate. That gate remains open for 24 hours for the locals as they take water from the spring and remains open for normal routine tasks.
When I entered the garden, I felt that to really I never come here because the environmental factors were quite different and alluring then summers. The soothing sound of water. Cold waves touching open face, ears, and hands; it feels like my parts are getting numb.
The spring looks like it is waiting and undergoing immense patience and calling, Oh summer, where are you traveling now? I am alone and disturbed.
It looks like spring is missing a huge gathering of people who love and have great attraction towards it during summers.
Summer and winter's impact on Verinag.
During summers it looks like we are somewhere where every corner is filled with visitors; everywhere there is a buzzing sound, some are busy searching for picturesque backgrounds for photography, and some are looking for empty space for relaxing their mood and body; some are busy with having lunch and tea.
In winters
It looks like I am a VIP and an influential personality in my nation, so I have got a great chance to visit this place. Because there were few people there. I felt it was only because of me that there were restrictions in the garden. You think I am joking. Hmm, but it was reality; I experienced it at Verinag during winters.
Why Verinag is famous in the Kashmir Valley.
It is considered that the origin of River Jehlum is the Verinag. The River Jehlum is a major river in South Asia, a tributary of the Chenab; in the past it was called Vitasta in Sanskrit. The Jehlum River flows through the Valley of Kashmir and then through the Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and then the Punjab regions of Pakistan and covers around 700 plus kilometers.
Verinag is also known as Mughal Garden because Mughal emperor Jahangir maintained it in the 16th century. And then his son, Shah Jahan, he was a great natural lover.
Verinag is in the lap of lush green pine and luscious vegetation of the Pir Panjal range and provides everyone one piece of mind. The water of spring looks green and so cold even in the scorching heat of the month of July. The fishes in the river enhance the beauty and attract thousands of visitors. All year round.
Verinag is in district Anantnag, tehsil Shahbad Bala, and has great importance among visitors as well as the locals.
Verinag bestows peace of mind and is calling the visitors from all corners of the world.
