ACB arrests Srinagar PSO in bribery case

May 03, 2026 | Shugufta Rashid

Srinagar, May 2: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested a Police Security Officer (PSO) in Srinagar for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe, marking another action in the ongoing drive against corruption in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said the accused PSO was caught red-handed during a trap operation laid by ACB sleuths following a complaint alleging demand for illegal gratification. The complainant had approached the bureau after being allegedly pressured for a bribe in connection with an official matter.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB verified the allegations and subsequently laid a trap in Srinagar, during which the accused was apprehended while accepting the bribe amount. The tainted money was also recovered from his possession on the spot.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain whether others were involved or if the accused was part of a larger nexus.
Officials said the arrest underscores the ACB’s continued zero-tolerance approach towards corruption in public services and reiterated that strict action will be taken against any government official found indulging in bribery or abuse of position.
The bureau also urged citizens to report instances of corruption, assuring confidentiality and prompt action in all genuine complaints.
