
To assess and strengthen Srinagar’s emergency response mechanism, the district administration on Saturday organized a Tabletop Exercise on flood disaster preparedness at the DC office complex.
The exercise, followed by a practical demonstration, was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, who also chairs the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). Officials from the District and State Disaster Management Authorities, including ADM Aadil Fareed, CEO DMRR Dr. Amir Hussain, and Deputy Secretary DMRRR Snowber Jameel, were present.
Jointly organized by DDMA Srinagar and the J&K-level DMA, the exercise simulated flood emergencies, outlined the roles of key responders, and incorporated expert insights on current flood relief strategies.
The DC commended the coordination among departments and emphasized the importance of preparedness in mitigating disaster impact. Participating departments showcased vital equipment used in flood situations.
ADM and CEO DDMA Srinagar presented the operational framework of DDMA and the Incident Response System (IRS), underlining inter-agency collaboration for effective disaster response.
Deputy Secretary DMRRR stressed the value of such drills in refining strategies, while CEO DMRR appreciated stakeholder cooperation.
The event was coordinated by Consultant Mushtaq Ahmad and the District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC). Participating teams included NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Civil Defence, Health Department, and I&FC
