
Budgam, May 10: In a major crackdown against the alleged illegal distribution of prescription medicines, authorities seized 7,770 capsules of Pregabalin-300 worth more than Rs 3.24 lakh from the possession of a medical representative in Magam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday.
Officials said the operation was carried out by Peerzada Tasaduq Hussain, Drugs Control Officer of Sub Division Beerwah, during an enforcement drive in the area.
According to officials, the accused was intercepted and apprehended at Magam during the operation, following which a large quantity of Pregabalin capsules was recovered from his possession.
Authorities said the seized consignment included 7,770 capsules of Pregabalin-300, estimated to be worth around Rs 3,24,940 in the market.
Officials described the seizure as a significant breakthrough in efforts aimed at curbing the illegal circulation and misuse of controlled pharmaceutical substances in the region.
Pregabalin is a prescription medicine commonly used for neurological and pain-related disorders, but officials have repeatedly expressed concern over its alleged misuse and unauthorized sale in different areas.
The identity of the accused medical representative was not immediately disclosed by officials.
Authorities said further investigation was underway to determine the source of the consignment, intended distribution channels, and possible involvement of additional persons in the alleged racket.
Officials added that legal action under relevant provisions of law would follow based on the outcome of the investigation.
