With deep sorrow and righteous indignation, I strongly condemn the disgraceful and obscene display that took place in Gulmarg under the preteens of a fashion show. The audacity of organizing such an event during the sacred month of Ramadan—a time of spiritual purification—goes beyond mere insensitivity. It is a deliberate attempt to undermine the moral and religious values that have defined Kashmir for centuries.
The Holy Qur’an warns against such moral corruption:
"Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows, while you do not know." (Surah An-Nur, 24:19)
Kashmir has long been a centre of tourism, welcoming visitors from across the world while upholding its rich Islamic and cultural heritage. For centuries, travellers have come to admire the natural beauty and spiritual tranquillity of this land, yet never have such vulgar acts been associated with our tourism industry. This recent incident is an insult to our ancestral values and an attempt to reshape the identity of our society under the false pretext of progress and modernity.
Allah Almighty commands believers to uphold modesty and resist moral corruption:
"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do." (Surah An-Nur, 24:30)
"And do not approach immoralities—what is apparent of them and what is concealed." (Surah Al-An’am, 6:151)
I urge all stakeholders—government authorities, hoteliers, cultural promoters, and the general public—to refrain from indulging in or promoting such disgraceful activities. If such acts continue unchecked, they will smash the moral fabric of our youth and weaken the ethical foundation of our society.
Kashmir is a land of faith, knowledge, and dignity. We must work together to preserve its purity and honor. Let us ensure that tourism in Kashmir remains aligned with its cultural and religious identity, rather than being used as a tool for promoting shamelessness and immodesty.
I assure the people of Kashmir that we will not remain silent. Such acts will not be allowed to take root in our society. We will take every necessary step to prevent such moral degradation and protect the future of our youth.
May Allah guide us to uphold righteousness and safeguard the sanctity of our homeland.
