
A booklet on Youth & Substance abuse ( Najawan aur Manshiyaat ) authored by Molvi Syed Mohd Hussain Haqani ,Patron “Karwani Shahi Hamdan” was released at an impressive function at Ahata Waqar - Chanapora - a daycare and recreation centre for Senior Citizens today. The event coincides with the foundation day of Ahata Waqar ,Chanapora , which was inaugurated by the then Chief Justice , Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Gita Mittal on April , 2019 . The Center has over a period of time become a place of happiness and honour where senior citizens celebrate special occasions and get involved in a lot of social activities.
Speaking on the occasion Chairman Ahata Waqar Ab Gani Parray said that the Center provides a congenial platform where the senior citizens share their priceless experiences and expertise to overcome various issues confronting the society. He said the center provides various recreational facilities that could help to overcome feelings of loneliness ,depression and other psychiatric conditions among the elders . These facilities include an excellent library, recreational hall,reading room, pantry, counseling centre, Gegiartric OPD and physiotherapy . .He expressed gratitude to District Legal Services Authority DLSA ,srinagar ,SWD ,srinagar and the directorate of Health services Kashmir for providing logistic support to Ahata Waqar for organising various events for the betterment and welfare of senior citizens.
Speaking on the occasion , Secretary District Legal Services (DLSA) ,srinagar Mr Jhangir Bakhshi said that the Centre has been established in recognition of the contribution and sacrifices made by senior citizens He said free legal aid is provided to the senior citizens who face violence and discrimination
in the society. He underscored the need to promote social empowerment, economic empowerment, education- al empowerment, and women
empowerment and giving equal rights to them in all spheres of life. He urged the need to curb the prevailing menace of substance abuse adding that parents can not escape their responsibility in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion ,Er. Khazir Mohd Trag said Ahata Waqar provides an opportunity to serve the needy people . He called upon all senior citizens to inculcate a spirit of selfless service to the needy, especially elderly people adding that service to humanity was the best form of worship ( Haqooqul- Ibaad حقوق العباد).
Syed Mohd Hussain and Syed Mujtaba - Law officer , Institute of mental health INHAMS , threw light on the alarming level of substance abuse in J&K. Quoting sources , it was informed that presently about13 lakh youth including 30 percent females were affected with the menace of substance abuse . The figure was only 6 lakhs in 2020 . It was given out that about 90 percent drug peddlers in j&k comprise the females. It was given out that the police department and civil administration alone can not eradicate the prevailing drug menace fully adding that surveillance and strict watch of the parents on their children was imperative for the purpose.
On this occasion a condolence session was also held to offer prayers to the departed soul of the wife of Chairman , Ahata Waqaar , who left for heavenly abode last week. The speakers paid rich tribute and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
They expressed heartfelt sympathies with Ab Gani Parray and other members of the bereaved family.
The proceedings of the function commenced by reciting of Quranic verses (tilawati Kalam Allah) by Haji Gh Hassan shah followed by Naat khawani by Javed Ah. Baigh. Dr Liala sultan conducted proceedings of the event very nicely.
