Advocate Javed Hubi, Senior Leader of the Awami Ittehad Party, has called upon the Government of India to initiate a dedicated commercial train service for the transportation of fruits from Jammu & Kashmir to other parts of the country.
Highlighting the importance of the horticulture sector, Advocate Hubi said that fruit production forms the backbone of Kashmir’s rural economy and supports thousands of farmers and orchardists. The absence of efficient transportation facilities has resulted in heavy losses to growers due to delays, high freight charges, and market inconsistencies.
He further pointed out that the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway frequently gets closed due to heavy rains and landslides, causing huge quantities of fruit to rot and go to waste, inflicting unbearable losses on growers.
Advocate Hubi stated, “If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces the launch of this service, it would truly be a birthday gift to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Such a step will not only uplift our farmers but also strengthen the bond between Kashmir and the rest of the nation.”
The Awami Ittehad Party appeals to the Union Government to take immediate action in this regard so that the horticulture community is provided timely relief and a sustainable platform for economic growth.
