
Srinagar, Mar 24: The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Tuesday launched the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 under the National TB Elimination Programme, marking the beginning of a 100-day intensified campaign to combat tuberculosis in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner flagged off a mobile TB testing van equipped with CBNAAT technology, capable of delivering test results within two hours. The van will tour various areas of the district over the next 100 days, beginning with Urban Primary Health Centre Batamaloo, to conduct screening, diagnosis and awareness activities.
During the launch, the DC reviewed campaign preparations with health officials and appreciated the efforts of the health department in tackling tuberculosis. He stressed that the initiative aims to accelerate TB elimination through extensive outreach, focused screening, increased testing and improved access to free, quality treatment.
Highlighting TB as a continuing public health concern, particularly among vulnerable populations, he called for coordinated efforts among stakeholders to ensure the campaign’s success.
Officials said that health teams will actively reach out to high-risk groups during the campaign, focusing on early detection, awareness about symptoms and prevention, and providing sustained medical and psychological support to patients.
Senior health officials, including the Chief Medical Officer and District Tuberculosis Officer, were present on the occasion.
