Will visit shelling affected Poonch today
Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on a two-day visit on Thursday evening.
The Home Minister was received at the Jammu airport by Lt Governor Manoj Singh, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and J&K BJP leaders.
After his arrival, Shah left for Rajbhavan, where he was given a briefing about the security situation by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.
Later in the evening, Shah chaired a high-level security meeting at Raj Bhawan to review the security situation in J&K.
The meeting was attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor, top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and heads of security agencies including the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, and J&K Police.
“During the meeting, security officials apprised the Home Minister about counter terrorist operations in J&K and security measures taken for smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra. He was also briefed about measures taken at tourist places for the safety of the tourists,” sources said.
It was Home Minister's first visit to J&K after Operation Sindoor, and his second after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 25 tourists and a local pony wala were killed.
Sources said after overnight stay at Rajbhavan, Shah will travel to Poonch on Friday to meet families affected by Pakistani shelling during the four day military standoff between India and Pakistan.
He will also visit damaged religious places including Singh Sabha Gurudwara in Poonch and hold a meeting with officers to assess the damage in the worst-hit district, they said.
At least 13 civilians were killed and hundreds of houses and structures damaged in Pakistani shelling in Poonch.
The home minister will also visit the BSF camp in Poonch and interact with jawans.
He will also address the civilians affected by Pakistani shelling at Dak Bungalow in Poonch and BSF soldiers at their Unit Headquarters in Khanetar.
He is likely to distribute appointment letters to the next of kin of civilians killed in the shelling.
There is also a likelihood that the Home Minister may announce a special package for the border residents affected by the cross border shelling.
