Anantnag Maternity Hospital faces backlash over overcrowding, staff negligence, poor infra

November 21, 2024 | BK News Service

The Anantnag Maternity Hospital under the administrative control of the Government Medical College Anantnag has become the subject of debate on social media owing to its deteriorated building, huge patient rush, unwelcoming attitude of staff towards attendants and patients, and severe space constraints.

Multiple videos and photographs about the hospital are viral for all the wrong reasons.

Visuals from the hospital reveal a distressing reality. The consultation room is perpetually overcrowded, with patients and attendants struggling to find space. Guidelines mandate a 5 feet distance between beds, but this gap is barely one foot, highlighting the acute space congestion.

With over 40,000 outpatient visits and 7,000 inpatient admissions monthly, the hospital's maternity ward operates beyond capacity. Designed for 40 beds, the ward is consistently overwhelmed, compromising patient care.

Female patients and attendants face an unwelcoming attitude from medical staff, sparking widespread concern. Locals demand immediate action to address these issues, particularly the hospital's relocation.

People urged authorities to prioritize patient welfare and relocate the hospital without delay.
