Srinagar, June 6: Jammu and Kashmir has stepped up its ongoing 100-day campaign to control the drug menace, with intensified enforcement actions including arrests, seizures, and attachment of properties linked to narcotics networks across the Union Territory.
Officials said the campaign, launched as a coordinated effort by police, civil administration, and enforcement agencies, aims to dismantle the supply chain of narcotics, identify drug peddlers, and curb the growing influence of substance abuse, particularly among youth.
As part of the drive, police units across districts have carried out multiple raids targeting suspected drug traffickers and their associates. In several cases, properties believed to have been acquired through proceeds of narcotics trade have been identified and attached under relevant provisions of law, officials said.
Senior officers said the focus of the campaign is not only on arrests but also on breaking the financial backbone of the drug network. “Action against property accumulated through illegal drug trade is being prioritised to ensure long-term deterrence,” an official said.
The campaign also includes awareness drives in schools, colleges, and public spaces, where students and residents are being sensitised about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Police and health departments are jointly conducting counselling sessions and outreach programmes in vulnerable areas.
Officials said coordination among enforcement agencies has been strengthened to track inter-district and cross-border drug trafficking routes. Surveillance at key entry points and highways has been increased, with special checkpoints and intelligence-based operations being carried out regularly.
They added that the administration is also working to rehabilitate drug victims through de-addiction centres and support programmes, aiming to shift the approach from punishment alone to a balanced strategy of enforcement and recovery.
Authorities said the 100-day campaign will continue with sustained pressure on drug networks, and more property attachment cases and targeted operations are expected in the coming weeks as part of a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics in the Union Territory.
