Mobile internet suspended
Jammu,. Jan 30: Security forces have intensified operations in the snowbound Chatroo belt of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, to track down three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists.
The operation, ongoing since January 18, has involved multiple encounters, including a gunbattle in Sonnar forest near Mandral-Singhpora, which left a paratrooper dead and eight soldiers injured. The terrorists exploited the dense forest and challenging terrain to evade capture. Subsequent clashes at Mali Dana Top on January 22 and Janseer-Kandiwar on January 25 saw the militants once again slipping into deep forested areas.
To prevent misuse of communication services by anti-national elements during the operation, mobile internet in Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo has been suspended until 11:59 PM on January 30. The suspension, ordered by the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024, aims to maintain public order.
Meanwhile, security forces in Poonch district have launched a search operation in Pajja Morh, Nabana Top, and surrounding areas following reports of two suspected individuals. No contact has been established so far, and the operation is ongoing.
This coordinated effort underscores the challenges of counter-terror operations in rugged, snowbound terrains while maintaining public safety and communication security.
