Kolkata, Nov 13: In a remarkable achievement, Army Public School (APS) Kolkata has been declared the joint winner in the School Category of the 6th National Water Awards for 2024 under the Conservancy Award. The school’s exceptional contribution to water conservation and climate sustainability has earned it recognition at a national level.
APS Kolkata was selected from over 2 lakh schools nationwide, with only 8 schools and colleges being honored for their outstanding efforts. The school is the only Army Public School to receive the prestigious award, marking a significant achievement for both the institution and the Army Public School network across India.
The award recognizes schools and institutions that have made significant strides in promoting sustainable water management practices, including water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and community engagement in water sustainability. APS Kolkata's proactive initiatives in these areas have set a benchmark for schools across the country.
The award ceremony, which will be held on November 18, 2025, will be graced by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who will confer the award to APS Kolkata in recognition of its tireless efforts in environmental conservation.
Lt Gen RC Tiwari, the Army Commander of the Eastern Command, congratulated APS Kolkata for its achievement, praising the school’s commitment to sustainability. “This award is a testament to the dedication of both the students and faculty of APS Kolkata in fostering an environment-conscious generation. Their work in water conservation serves as an example for others to follow,” Lt Gen Tiwari remarked.
This award not only highlights the importance of sustainability in educational institutions but also serves as an inspiration to other schools and communities to prioritize environmental stewardship and actively contribute to tackling climate change.
