Mizoram, Aug 30: In a continued effort to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, the Assam Rifles conducted an impactful awareness lecture on the ‘Prevention of Drug Abuse’ at Hnahlan, a remote village in Mizoram, on August 30, 2025.
The event was part of the Assam Rifles’ civic action initiative aimed at educating local communities, especially youth, about the dangers of substance abuse and its long-term impact on individuals, families, and society at large.
Addressing the gathering, Assam Rifles officers emphasized that drug addiction not only ruins lives but also contributes to social instability, crime, and poor mental and physical health outcomes. They urged the youth to stay away from addictive substances and instead focus on education, sports, and community development.
The lecture highlighted the types of commonly abused drugs, early signs of addiction, and the importance of seeking timely help through de-addiction centres and support systems. Special emphasis was placed on the role of family, community leaders, and peer groups in preventing and responding to drug-related issues.
The session also included a question-and-answer segment, where locals voiced concerns and shared personal experiences, making the event interactive and impactful. Pamphlets and informational material in the local language were distributed to further raise awareness.
Local leaders and residents appreciated the initiative, calling it a timely intervention in a region that faces growing challenges due to drug trafficking routes and rising youth vulnerability.
The Assam Rifles reaffirmed their commitment to public welfare and said they would continue such outreach efforts across other border villages of Mizoram. The event concluded with a pledge ceremony, where participants vowed to promote a drug-free and healthy society.
This initiative by Assam Rifles reinforces their role not just as protectors of the border, but as key partners in nation-building and social reform in the Northeast.
