Mao, Senapati , April 18: The Assam Rifles organised an awareness lecture on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Mao in Senapati district on 16 April 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and promote a drug-free society in the region.
The session was primarily aimed at sensitising local youth about the harmful physical, psychological, and social effects of drug consumption, as well as informing them about the legal provisions and strict penalties under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The programme was conducted by personnel of the Assam Rifles through a structured presentation that covered key aspects such as drug identification, prevention strategies, rehabilitation support, and enforcement mechanisms under the law.
Following the formal briefing, an interactive and informal discussion session was held, allowing participants to raise questions, share concerns, and engage directly with the speakers. The open dialogue was designed to encourage active participation and better understanding among attendees, particularly the youth.
Officials stated that such awareness initiatives are part of the Assam Rifles’ broader civic action programme aimed at addressing social issues and strengthening community engagement in vulnerable areas.
The event concluded with a renewed appeal to the local population to stay vigilant against the drug menace and to support collective efforts in building a healthier and safer society.
