The Assam Rifles recently conducted a deeply moving wreath-laying ceremony to honor the fallen soldiers of Operation Hifazat, showcasing their unwavering commitment to commemorating valor and sacrifice

Operation Hifazat was a pivotal counter-insurgency mission undertaken by the Assam Rifles in the early 2000s in Manipur. The operation aimed to restore peace amidst a challenging insurgent landscape, requiring coordinated intelligence-based maneuvers in hostile terrain
Fallen Heroes of the Valley
At the Battalion Headquarters in Tengnoupal, Manipur, the Assam Rifles paid heartfelt tribute to four martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice during the operation:
Second-in-Command P. N. T. Nair
Havildar Hiralal Prasad
Havildar L. K. Sinha
Rifleman T. M. Mathew
The ceremony, filled with respect and reflection, included a moment of silence followed by wreath-laying by commanding officers and soldiers
Surrounded by senior officers, jawans, and local dignitaries, the ceremony echoed with solemnity. The commanding officer’s address highlighted the martyrs' courage and the enduring inspiration their sacrifice provides—defending national peace and stability in extremely trying conditions
Beyond honoring the soldiers, the ceremony reaffirmed solidarity with their bereaved families, acknowledging the shared sacrifice of those left behind
This remembrance underscores Assam Rifles’ enduring motto—“Friends of the Hill People”—and their steadfast role in preserving security across India’s Northeast. The tribute served as a poignant reminder that the ultimate sacrifices made by these soldiers continue to guide and inspire generations in uniform
