
Churachandpur/ Kohima, April 25: The Assam Rifles under Spear Corps organised a series of environmental awareness and cleanliness drives across Manipur and Nagaland from April 22 to 24, 2026, in observance of World Earth Day.
The initiatives were conducted in Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Imphal West districts of Manipur, as well as at Mount Olive College in Kohima, Nagaland. The programmes aimed at promoting environmental responsibility, sustainability, and community participation in ecological conservation.
Personnel from Assam Rifles engaged with local residents, students, and institutions, emphasising the importance of preserving natural resources and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. Activities included plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and awareness sessions highlighting the impact of pollution and deforestation.
At educational institutions, including Mount Olive College, interactive sessions were held to encourage students to adopt eco-friendly practices and become active participants in environmental protection efforts. Participants were sensitised on waste management, reduction of plastic use, and the importance of protecting biodiversity.
Officials said the initiative reflects Assam Rifles’ continued commitment to community welfare beyond security operations, focusing on social outreach and environmental stewardship in the region.
