
Aizawl, July 13: In a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating along the Indo-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Excise & Narcotics Department, recovered 63.6 grams of Heroin No. 4 valued at approximately ₹47.7 lakh from a suspected vehicle in Zote area of Champhai district, Mizoram.
The operation, conducted on July 10 based on specific intelligence inputs, targeted a vehicle suspected of being used for transporting narcotic substances. During the search, the joint team recovered the contraband concealed inside the vehicle.
Four individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling racket were apprehended during the operation. Their identities have not been disclosed as investigations are underway to ascertain their role and identify other members of the trafficking network.
Following the seizure, the recovered Heroin No. 4, the vehicle used in the transportation of the narcotics, and the arrested individuals were handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department for further investigation and legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Officials said the operation highlights the close coordination between Assam Rifles and civil enforcement agencies in combating the growing menace of drug trafficking in the border areas of the North East.
