Army distributes relief material in Karnah families

May 13, 2025 | BK News Service

In a significant humanitarian outreach, the Indian Army on Monday distributed relief material to families affected by recent cross-border shelling in the Karnah subdivision of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The shelling, which occurred along the Line of Control (LoC), left several homes damaged and forced residents of border villages to seek temporary shelter in safer areas. Responding swiftly to the crisis, the Army launched a relief operation aimed at supporting the displaced and distressed families.
Officials said that essential items, including food kits, blankets, medicines, and hygiene supplies, were handed over to the affected families. The relief distribution took place at key locations in the subdivision, where Army personnel coordinated with local authorities and community leaders to ensure timely and fair delivery of aid.
A senior Army officer present on the occasion said, “We stand with the people of Karnah during these challenging times. Our priority is to ensure their safety and provide them with immediate support to rebuild their lives.”
The gesture has been widely appreciated by the locals, who have faced repeated disruptions to their lives due to frequent ceasefire violations. Several residents expressed gratitude for the Army’s timely assistance and continued presence in the region.
The Karnah belt, which lies close to the LoC, remains one of the most vulnerable regions in north Kashmir. This latest shelling incident has once again highlighted the precarious security situation along the border and the resilience of the residents living in its shadow.
Local administration officials confirmed that a damage assessment is underway and additional support will be provided to the affected families in the coming days.
