
Umroi, April 26: The Indian Army’s Foreign Training Node at Umroi in Meghalaya hosted delegates from extended neighbourhood countries for the Final Planning Conference of the maiden multinational Exercise PRAGATI-I (Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region).
The conference brought together representatives from participating nations to finalise operational and administrative arrangements for the inaugural edition of the exercise. Discussions focused on streamlining coordination, training modules, logistics, and participation modalities to ensure smooth execution of the multinational engagement.
During the visit, delegates were also given a tour of the state-of-the-art training infrastructure at the Umroi facility. Officials showcased the advanced capabilities available at the node, which is designed to support joint training, interoperability, and collaborative military learning among friendly foreign armies.
According to defence sources, Exercise PRAGATI-I is envisioned as a platform to enhance mutual understanding, build trust, and strengthen defence cooperation among countries in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond. The initiative also aims to promote shared learning in areas such as peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief.
The successful conduct of the planning conference marks a key milestone in preparations for the exercise, reflecting growing defence engagement between India and partner nations.
