Army launches Poonch Volleyball tournament

Bufliaz,Mar 31: The Indian Army today organised and inaugurated a Volleyball Tournament at Draba, District Poonch, under Operation Sadbhavana, aimed at promoting sportsmanship, teamwork and a spirit of healthy competition among local youth.The tournament was inaugurated by Colonel Rohit Bharat, Commanding Officer, 61 Rashtriya Rifles, in the presence of local representatives, prominent citizens and a large number of enthusiastic locals who gathered to witness the event. Among the dignitaries present on the occasion was Sarpanch Bufliaz, Ms. Tahira Tabasum, who appreciated the initiative and expressed her gratitude to the Indian Army for organising such a meaningful event for the youth of the area.Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Rohit Bharat highlighted the important role of sports in shaping the character and discipline of youth. He stated that the Indian Army remains committed to encouraging positive engagement with local communities through such initiatives. He emphasized that games and sports not only promote physical fitness but also instill values of teamwork, leadership and unity, which are essential for nation-building.The tournament is being conducted in memory of Sub (Late) Ajay Singh, SM, at TATA Volleyball Ground, Darogian, District Poonch, from March 31 to April 2, 2026. The event has drawn participation from multiple teams, providing a valuable platform for young players to showcase their talent and develop essential sporting skills.

Organised under Operation Sadbhavana, the initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment towards engaging with the local community and encouraging constructive activities among youth. The tournament has witnessed enthusiastic participation and a strong turnout of spectators, adding to the vibrant sporting atmosphere.Locals present on the occasion expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army for organising such a constructive and engaging event.
