New Delhi, July 14: The Indian Army on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Havildar Mohd Iqbal of the Assam Rifles, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during an operational deployment in Nagaland.

Expressing profound grief over the soldier's demise, Lieutenant General V.M.B. Krishnan, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, along with all ranks of the Eastern Command, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and honoured the soldier's courage, dedication and selfless service to the nation.
In a message shared by the Eastern Command, the Army said, "Lt Gen VMB Krishnan, Army Commander Eastern Command, and all ranks express deepest condolences on the demise of Havildar Mohd Iqbal, Assam Rifles, who gallantly made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Nagaland. The Indian Army stands firmly with the bereaved family."
The Army described Havildar Mohd Iqbal as a brave and committed soldier who displayed exemplary courage and devotion while performing his operational responsibilities. His sacrifice, it said, reflects the unwavering commitment of the Assam Rifles in safeguarding national security and maintaining peace in the North-East.
While the Army did not immediately disclose further operational details surrounding the incident, it reiterated its unwavering support to the soldier's family during this difficult time.
The Assam Rifles, India's oldest paramilitary force operating under the operational control of the Indian Army, has played a vital role in counter-insurgency operations, border guarding and maintaining peace and stability in the North-Eastern region.
