Guwahati , July 2: The Spear Gunners under the Spear Corps of the Indian Army, in coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), conducted a comprehensive joint flood relief training exercise in South Assam to enhance operational preparedness, rescue capabilities and inter-agency coordination for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations.
The exercise was organised to strengthen the ability of both agencies to respond swiftly and effectively to flood-related emergencies, particularly in vulnerable and flood-prone regions of the state.
The training covered a wide range of disaster response scenarios, including flood rescue procedures, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation, relief distribution and coordination during emergency situations. Personnel from both the Army and SDRF participated in simulated rescue missions designed to replicate real-life flood conditions.
Special emphasis was laid on improving communication, teamwork and coordination between the two agencies to ensure a seamless response during natural disasters. Participants also practised the deployment of rescue equipment, evacuation of stranded civilians and management of relief operations under challenging conditions.
The exercise concluded with a joint validation phase, during which the effectiveness of the coordinated response mechanism was assessed. The final phase demonstrated the preparedness of both the Army and SDRF to work together efficiently in mitigating the impact of floods and other natural disasters.
Officials said the joint training reflects the Indian Army's continued commitment to strengthening disaster response capabilities and supporting civil authorities during emergencies. Such collaborative exercises play a crucial role in improving operational readiness and ensuring timely assistance to affected communities during floods and other calamities.
