As heat wave continued in Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister, Sakina Itoo on Saturday announced that the government has decided to announce early-summer vacation for all private and government schools in Kashmir division from June 23.
“The schools across Kashmir would observe the summer break from June 23 to July 7,” stated an order issued by the Director of School Education Kashmir.
“Consequent upon the approval conveyed by the competent authority, it is hereby ordered that all the Government and recognized Private Schools up to Higher Secondary level functioning in the Kashmir Division shall observe summer vacation w.e.f 23-06-2025 to 07-07-2025,” reads the order.
Kashmir is currently experiencing a heatwave as the temperatures have soared to record high in the last two decades.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the weather conditions in Kashmir are unbearable for students and in view of the severe heatwave, the government has decided to announce early-summer vacation for schools in Kashmir from June-23.
She said the government will review the weather conditions after the culmination of summer vacations and will take the call of extension accordingly.
Itoo said earlier the department had proposed to declare the summer vacations from July 1 to July-10. “However, keeping in view the severe heatwave, we have decided to announce an early summer vacation of 15 days with effect from June-23.”
