Asif Hussain appointed Indian MMA coach

November 30, 2025 | BK News Service

MMA is the fastest-growing sport in the world, and our youth are deeply passionate about this dynamic martial art. Among them, one coach has risen through sheer dedication, discipline, and years of hard work — Coach Asif Hussain. His journey began in Wushu, where he spent years as an athlete representing J&K, winning multiple medals, and earning the prestigious title of Outstanding Athlete of Jammu & Kashmir. From 2013 to 2018, he voluntarily trained hundreds of athletes in Srinagar at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium under the J&K Sports Council, producing national and international medalists at world-level events through nothing but commitment and passion for the sport. His work was further recognised when his own student received the Jammu & Kashmir State Award, a moment of pride reflecting the impact of his coaching. He then went on to complete his Diploma in Coaching at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, becoming a fully qualified coach.

But Asif’s hunger to grow didn’t stop there. He transitioned into MMA and earned a professional IMMAF MMA Coaching Diploma under renowned Olympic coach Andrew Mashnov, becoming a certified MMA coach as well. Under his guidance, his athletes achieved medals at the IMMAF Youth World Championship, and the J&K MMA team delivered exceptional performances at national championships, bringing laurels to the state. His dedication was acknowledged by MMA India, awarding him Coach of the Year (2023) and Best Youth Development Award (2022).
Even with all these achievements, his journey continues with even greater purpose. Today, MMA India has selected Asif Hussain as the official Indian Team Coach for the upcoming Asian MMA Championship to be held in Lebanon from 4–11 December 2025 — a moment of immense pride and honour for him, for J&K, and for the entire nation. His goal remains clear: to take MMA to every corner of Jammu & Kashmir, to uplift raw talent, and to produce world-class athletes from his homeland.
Representing India at the international level is not just an achievement for him — it is a responsibility. “I am thankful to MMA India for recognising my passion and hard work,” he says. “I will continue to prove myself in this sport and will ensure that J&K produces athletes who shine on the world stage.” This is not just a story — it is the beginning of a legacy that will inspire generations. For any media queries or further information regarding this announcement, kindly contact:
