
Kargil, Mar 8: On International Women’s Day, MY Bharat Yuva Kargil, in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports Office (DYSSO) Kargil, organized a vibrant sports programme under the Government of India’s flagship initiative ASMITA – Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action – at the Astro Turf Ground, Khel Gaon Kurbathang.
The initiative, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, aimed to promote women’s participation in sports and encourage young women to adopt healthy and active lifestyles. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest ASP Kargil Ishtiyaq Ahmad Kacho and Guest of Honour Dr. Rinchen Dolkar, Scientist at Agriculture University Ladakh. Participants were welcomed with a traditional Khatak presentation by the District Youth Officer of MY Bharat.
In his address, the DYO highlighted the objectives of ASMITA, emphasizing the empowerment of women through sports. ASP Kacho lauded the programme, noting that sports build confidence, fitness, and help youth steer clear of social challenges such as substance abuse and excessive screen time.
Despite the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan, young women from across Kargil actively participated in 100m, 200m, and 400m races across various age groups. Competitors included members of Ladakh Police, Sports Authority of India (SAI) Kargil, schools, and athletics associations.

100m (Below 18 yrs): Gold – Shahar Banoo, Silver – Stanzin Tsanghang, Bronze – Yasmeen Fatima
100m (Below 13 yrs): Gold – Asiya Banoo, Silver – Amina Banoo, Bronze – Arifa Batool
200m (Above 18 yrs): Gold – Asiya Banoo, Silver – Farida Barco, Bronze – Desal Angmo
200m: Gold – Farida Banoo, Silver – Desal Angmo, Bronze – Fareena Banoo
400m (Above 18 yrs): Gold – Kulsuma Ranoo, Silver – Norzen Palmo, Bronze – Stanzin Dolma

Winners were felicitated with medals and certificates during a prize distribution ceremony. The event concluded with a Swachhta Abhiyan, where participants and officials carried out a cleanliness drive, promoting environmental responsibility.
The programme, compered by ZEPO Kargil Mohd Ibrahim Shoqi, successfully highlighted the spirit of “Empowering Women Through Sports,” inspiring young women in Kargil to excel in sports and community initiatives.
