Imphal, Mar 20: The Assam Rifles organised vibrant celebrations of Sajibu Nongmapanba, popularly known as Cheiraoba, the traditional New Year festival of Manipur, at Irengbam and Company Operating Bases at Longa Koireng on March 19, 2026.

The festivities witnessed enthusiastic participation from local villagers and Assam Rifles personnel, reflecting a strong sense of cultural unity and community bonding. Marking the arrival of the Manipuri New Year, the celebrations were held in accordance with traditional customs and rituals, symbolising renewal, prosperity and harmony.
Residents joined security personnel in observing age-old practices associated with Cheiraoba, including the preparation of traditional food and participation in cultural interactions. The event created an atmosphere of joy and togetherness, bridging the gap between the forces and the local population.
