In a vibrant tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, the Assam Rifles celebrated National Sports Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit across multiple districts of Manipur, from August 29 to 31. The three-day celebration aimed to foster youth empowerment, encourage physical fitness, and promote social harmony through the unifying power of sports.

Events were held across Chandel, Thoubal, and Tengnoupal districts, drawing wide participation from local youth, students, and community members. The sports activities ranged from football and volleyball tournaments to tug-of-war, races, and various traditional games, each organized to nurture talent, encourage teamwork, and create a festive atmosphere of healthy competition.
Assam Rifles personnel actively participated alongside local youth, strengthening the bond between the security forces and the communities they serve. The celebrations echoed the importance of discipline, perseverance, and unity—core values both in sports and national service.
In his address during the closing ceremony in Tengnoupal, an Assam Rifles official said,
"On this National Sports Day, we not only honor the memory of Major Dhyan Chand but also reignite the passion for sports among our youth. Sports are a powerful medium to channel energy positively, keep communities united, and inspire national pride."
Special medals, certificates, and trophies were awarded to winners and standout performers, while all participants were appreciated for their sportsmanship and spirit. Parents and elders from nearby villages commended Assam Rifles for providing a platform for young people to showcase their talent and stay motivated, especially in remote and sensitive areas.
Local leaders and school authorities praised the initiative, noting that such events go a long way in building bridges between security forces and civilians and in discouraging anti-social influences among the youth.
