Assam Rifles celebrates veteran journalist’s 99th birthday

Kohima, Mar 26: Assam Rifles, under the aegis of 23 Sector, in collaboration with the Territorial Army, recently celebrated the 99th birthday of Padma Shri Havildar Lalbiakthanga Pachuau (Retd.), a distinguished veteran of the 3rd Battalion, The Assam Regiment. The event, held under the theme “A Remarkable Century, A Remarkable Life,” honored his extraordinary contributions spanning military service, literature, journalism, and social service.

Havildar Pachuau is a proud World War II veteran who later devoted his life to literature and journalism, earning the Padma Shri in 2021 for his outstanding contributions to Literature and Education. Recognized as one of India’s oldest working journalists, he has inspired generations through his writings, mentorship, and social initiatives.
The celebration was attended by serving personnel, ex-servicemen, and family members, who paid tribute to his lifetime of dedication, resilience, and service to the nation. Assam Rifles lauded his achievements as a symbol of commitment and perseverance, emphasizing how his journey continues to inspire both armed forces and civilian communities alike.
