
Imphal, Mar 9: The Assam Rifles celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March 2026 in collaboration with the Manipur Catholic Women Organisation at Maram, Senapati district, Manipur. The event aimed to honor the contributions of women in society, promote empowerment, and provide essential healthcare services to local communities.
The celebration was graced by the Commandant of 16 Assam Rifles, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the vital role women play in society and emphasized the importance of empowerment through education, skill development, and equal opportunities. He encouraged women to actively participate in social, educational, and community initiatives to drive progress and development.
Over 250 women from various tribal communities, including Maram, Mao, Poumai, Zeliangrong, and Tangkhul, participated in the event. Families of personnel from the Maram Battalion also joined, reflecting the strong engagement between Assam Rifles and local communities.
As part of the celebration, a medical camp was organized to provide essential healthcare services, including health check-ups, awareness on women’s health issues, and guidance on preventive care. The initiative ensured that participants gained practical benefits alongside educational and motivational sessions.
