
Aizawl, June 21: Assam Rifles commemorated the 12th International Day of Yoga at Zokhawsang in Aizawl on 21 June 2026 in collaboration with the Directorate of AYUSH, Government of Mizoram, under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” reaffirming its commitment to promoting health, discipline and holistic well-being.
The main event was graced by General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, as the Chief Guest, and Miss Lalrinpuii, Hon’ble Minister for Health & Family Welfare, as the Guest of Honour. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from over 350 individuals, including civilians, NCC cadets, government officials and Assam Rifles personnel.
Participants joined the live telecast of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address and performed the Common Yoga Protocol under the supervision of trained instructors from the National AYUSH Mission, Mizoram. The session focused on promoting physical fitness, mental balance and the importance of integrating yoga into daily life for long-term health benefits.
Alongside the main event in Aizawl, Assam Rifles also organised yoga sessions across Serchhip, Champhai, Lawngtlai, Lunglei, Siaha, Parva and Zorinpui. These events collectively witnessed participation from over 875 civilians, students, police personnel and Assam Rifles personnel.
The widespread participation across multiple locations reflected growing awareness about yoga as a tool for preventive healthcare, stress management and healthy ageing. Participants performed a series of asanas and breathing exercises aimed at improving flexibility, concentration and overall well-being.
The events concluded with a collective message of adopting yoga as a daily practice to build a healthier, more resilient and balanced society, while strengthening community engagement and civil-military harmony in the region.
