Imphal, June 4: In a proactive initiative aimed at strengthening rural health preparedness ahead of the impending rainy season, Assam Rifles under the aegis of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan spearheaded a comprehensive ‘Shramdaan’ drive at Komlakhong village in Imphal West district of Manipur.
The initiative focused on preventive sanitation measures and improving public hygiene standards in the village, with special emphasis on pre-monsoon cleanliness to reduce the risk of waterborne and vector-borne diseases during the rainy season.
Unlike routine cleanliness drives, the programme adopted a more targeted approach by addressing vulnerable sanitation points, clearing accumulated waste, and promoting environmental cleanliness in and around public spaces. The effort was designed to create a healthier and safer living environment for residents ahead of seasonal challenges.
Assam Rifles personnel actively participated in the drive alongside local villagers, reflecting a spirit of community partnership and shared responsibility in maintaining hygiene and environmental sustainability.
During the programme, awareness was also generated among villagers regarding the importance of proper waste disposal, personal hygiene, and community participation in maintaining cleanliness. Officials highlighted that small preventive measures at the local level can significantly reduce health risks during the monsoon period.
Residents of Komlakhong village appreciated the initiative and expressed gratitude to Assam Rifles for extending support beyond security duties and contributing to public welfare and rural development.
The drive also reinforced the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by promoting cleanliness as a collective responsibility and encouraging long-term behavioural change within the community.
Assam Rifles officials stated that such civic action programmes will continue in rural and remote areas, with a focus on health awareness, sanitation, and community well-being, in addition to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The initiative concluded with a renewed commitment from both Assam Rifles and local residents to sustain cleanliness efforts and ensure a healthier environment in the village throughout the monsoon season and beyond.
