Kohima, Mar 9: In a coordinated effort to mark International Women’s Day, the Assam Rifles, under the operational command of Spear Corps, organized multiple awareness drives across the northeastern states of India. The initiatives aimed to promote women’s empowerment, safety, and social awareness, reaching remote districts and communities across Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Manipur.
The awareness drives were conducted at strategic locations including Noklak, Mon, and Kiphire districts in Nagaland; Kizare in Phek district; Jairampur and New Dogkpi in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh; Aizawl in Mizoram; and Pallel, Modi, and Moreh in Tengnoupal and Chandel districts, as well as Longa Koireng, Thoubal, and Kakching in Manipur.
During the events, Assam Rifles personnel engaged with local women and youth, highlighting key issues such as gender equality, the importance of education, health awareness, legal rights, and measures to ensure personal safety. The drives also emphasized the role of women in community development and encouraged active participation in social and civic initiatives.
The outreach programs included interactive sessions, demonstrations, and distribution of informational materials. In some locations, cultural performances and motivational talks were conducted to strengthen the message of empowerment and resilience among women.
Officials from Assam Rifles highlighted that such initiatives not only celebrate the contributions of women but also serve to strengthen the bond between the armed forces and local communities. “Empowering women is crucial for building resilient societies, and our efforts on this occasion are aimed at inspiring confidence, awareness, and participation among women in these remote areas,” a spokesperson said.
The series of drives were widely appreciated by the local communities, with women participants expressing gratitude for the guidance and support provided. The Assam Rifles reaffirmed its commitment to continue organizing similar programs throughout the year to promote social awareness, safety, and empowerment in the northeastern region.
These activities underscore the dual role of the Assam Rifles in ensuring security and fostering social development in some of India’s most remote and challenging regions.
