Thoubal, Feb 22: Assam Rifles organised a Wheelchair and Walking Sticks Distribution Programme at Thoubal district on 21 February 2026 under its flagship Operation Sadbhavana, reinforcing the force’s commitment to inclusive development and community welfare.

During the programme, aid items worth ₹2 lakh were distributed to 21 beneficiaries, including differently-abled individuals and elderly citizens. The distribution of wheelchairs and walking sticks is aimed at enhancing mobility, self-reliance, and dignity for those facing physical challenges.
Assam Rifles officials highlighted that such initiatives form an integral part of Operation Sadbhavana, which focuses on socio-economic development, community engagement, and civil–military cooperation in the North East. By directly addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, the programme strengthens trust and fosters a sense of inclusion within local communities.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, noting that the support will significantly improve their day-to-day mobility and quality of life. Local residents also appreciated the initiative, acknowledging Assam Rifles’ enduring role as the “Friends and Sentinels of the North East.”
The programme reflects Assam Rifles’ broader efforts to empower communities through targeted welfare initiatives, ensuring that development reaches the most deserving and marginalised sections of society while strengthening the bond between the military and the civilian population.
