Chandel, Aug 20: Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps is conducting a three-month Pre-Recruitment Training Programme at Shalluk village in Manipur’s Chandel district, aimed at preparing border-area youth for careers in the Armed Forces.
The programme, which commenced on July 15, 2026, brings together aspiring candidates from Tampi, Chakpikarong, Sajik Tampak and Shalluk. It is designed to provide structured guidance and training to young people preparing for the upcoming Territorial Army recruitment process.
The initiative focuses on three critical areas of recruitment preparation—medical fitness, physical conditioning and academic readiness. Through regular training and guidance, participants are being equipped to meet the demanding standards required for selection.
Beyond recruitment preparation, the programme represents an effort to expand opportunities for youth living in remote and border areas. Limited access to specialised coaching and career guidance can often make it difficult for aspiring candidates to compete effectively in recruitment examinations and physical selection processes.
By bringing structured training closer to these communities, the Assam Rifles is seeking to bridge that gap and provide local youth with a clearer pathway towards meaningful careers in the Armed Forces.
The programme also carries a wider message of youth empowerment and constructive engagement. Encouraging young people to pursue disciplined careers can help build confidence, leadership skills and a stronger sense of responsibility towards their communities and the nation.
For participants, the three-month programme offers more than physical preparation. Regular academic guidance and medical awareness can help candidates better understand recruitment requirements, identify areas requiring improvement and approach the selection process with greater confidence.
The participation of youth from several villages also gives the initiative a community-oriented character, bringing together aspiring candidates from different border settlements around a common goal.
The Assam Rifles has positioned the programme as part of its continuing efforts to support communities in the region through outreach, skill development and career-oriented initiatives.
As the training progresses, the focus will remain on helping candidates achieve the physical, medical and academic standards necessary for Territorial Army recruitment.
For Manipur’s border youth, the initiative offers not just training, but a pathway from aspiration to opportunity—turning determination and discipline into a potential career in uniform.
