Imphal, July 2: In a heartening initiative promoting education and communal harmony, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with Tangkhul and Kuki community leaders and the civil administration, facilitated the safe journey of an 11-year-old student from remote Tamenglong district of Manipur to Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where he will pursue his education under a scholarship programme.
The beneficiary, Master Eteudiak Newme, a resident of Teguaram village in Tamenglong district, secured admission to Doon Sanskriti School under a scholarship that will enable him to continue his studies in a supportive academic environment.
Despite financial constraints, logistical hurdles and prevailing security challenges in the region, the Chassad Battalion of Assam Rifles coordinated the student's entire journey. The battalion sponsored and arranged road and air travel, transit accommodation, admission formalities at the school and the return journey of the accompanying guardian.
The operation was carried out in close coordination with local community leaders and the civil administration to ensure the child's safe and smooth transit from his remote village to his new educational institution.
Officials said the initiative reflects the Assam Rifles' continued commitment to promoting education, empowering youth and supporting community welfare in remote and conflict-affected areas.
The successful effort also highlighted the spirit of cooperation among the Tangkhul and Kuki communities, civil authorities and security forces, demonstrating how collective action can create opportunities for children despite difficult circumstances.
The Assam Rifles said such initiatives reinforce the belief that education remains a powerful instrument for building hope, expanding opportunities and strengthening communal harmony while contributing to long-term peace and development in the region.
