Assam Rifles holds 2026 commanders conference

Shillong, Mar 23: The Assam Rifles held its Commanders Conference 2026 at Laitkor, Shillong, under the chairmanship of Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR), aimed at bolstering operational readiness and strategic coordination across the Force.

The conference brought together senior commanders from different Assam Rifles battalions to deliberate on enhancing operational capabilities, improving efficiency, and addressing emerging security challenges in the northeastern region and along sensitive border areas. Participants engaged in detailed discussions on counter-insurgency operations, disaster response preparedness, and integration with civil administration for maintaining law and order.
A major focus of the deliberations was strengthening inter-unit coordination and adopting best practices for operational excellence, ensuring that Assam Rifles continues to maintain high standards in safeguarding national security while contributing to socio-economic development in border regions.
During the conference, the prestigious Rajbhasha Trophies were presented to 23 Assam Rifles, 28 Assam Rifles, and 34 Assam Rifles in recognition of their outstanding contribution to promoting the use of Hindi in official work culture, reinforcing the importance of national language compliance in administrative functioning.
Addressing the commanders, Lt Gen Lakhera emphasized that operational efficiency goes hand-in-hand with disciplined administration and personnel welfare. He encouraged units to innovate in training, leverage technology, and maintain robust coordination with the Indian Army and local authorities to tackle evolving security threats effectively.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to operational excellence, professional growth, and promotion of cultural and linguistic initiatives within the Force, reflecting Assam Rifles’ dual role as a frontline security force and a community-engaged institution in the northeast.
This year’s conference reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ focus on modernizing operational protocols, strengthening command cohesion, and recognizing units that set benchmarks in administrative, operational, and cultural domains.
